The value of a Franchise vs an Independent Business

If you start an independent business it is a gamble.

You are assuming that there will be a market for a particular product or service. As a franchisee you can start out with an established brand and proof of concept.

In 2009/2010 less than half of all the new small businesses opened were still operating after 3 years. On the other hand the average operating tenure of a franchise business is 7 years.

One of the major benefit s for being part of a franchise is support.
Director of the Asia-Pacific Centre for Franchising Excellence at Griffith University - Professor Lorelle Frazer says "When we compared independent and franchised businesses during the economic downturn we found that support made a difference to business survival".
